Hero

Hero

Palm trees, breeze, no humidity, paradise

San Diego, some people call it,

We are here to see a man, a man I call my brother, become a Marine

My parents and I, huge smiles on our faces,

we have never been more proud

This day, we stand tall, with uncontrollable pride.

My biggest hero on this day you became.

Just a week ago, we were in cold, cold Chicago,

preparing for the day you’d leave us for three months,

it got colder and colder knowing you wouldn’t be here if I needed you

But I knew you were just one letter away, since communication through technology was forbidden.

I noticed you, running laps in front of us, all of you dressed in green making rounds in this heat,

through my little tears, all I could think is there goes my brother, there goes my hero.

On your graduation day, once again in this warm heaven on earth in California,

I thanked God for people like you.
